HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor the brave men and women of the Brookfield and LaGrange Police and Fire Departments on being honored by the Brookfield-LaGrange Lions Club; and

WHEREAS, The LaGrange Park Fire Department members receiving honor as Firefighters of the Year are Paramedic/Firefighter Susan Breen, Paramedic/Firefighter Terry Chiappetta, Paramedic/Firefighter Patrick Hurley, and Paramedic/Firefighter Ryan Leavitt; the four firefighters responded to what was perceived to be a routine call, but due to their training they were able to identify a potentially life-threatening situation and take the needed precautions on behalf of the patient; and

WHEREAS, The LaGrange Park Police Department has selected Sam Pulia as the Police Office of the Year for his dedication to the department; Sam Pulia, on his own time, donated furniture and wall hangings to update the police substation in the Forest Glen Apartments; in addition he used his own carpet shampooer and cleaned all the carpeting; even though he is only a part-time officer he dedicates his full attention to his work with the department; and

WHEREAS, The Brookfield Department of Police has selected Sergeant Fred Marek, Officer Richard Sebek, and Officer Paul Lanzi as the recipients of this year's award; Sergeant Marek and Officer Sebek are being honored for responding to a shooting incident 21 years ago; Fred Marek was promoted to Sergeant in October of 1998 and Officer Sebek has been nationally recognized for his expertise in the Aikido discipline of martial arts; Officer Lanzi is being honored for his heroic efforts during an undercover narcotics operation, with Officer Lanzi being seriously injured during the operation; and

WHEREAS, The Brookfield Fire Department has selected Lieutenant Jon Hultman for Firefighter of the Year for his hard work in securing federal funding for the department; he has secured money for air packs, a fire prevention smoke detector program, the purchase of an air compressor and thermal imaging camera, and other necessary items; he also was the lead instructor in teaching the firefighters how to use the camera; and

WHEREAS, The Brookfield-LaGrange Lions Club will honor these men and women at an awards ceremony on May 23, 2007; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the men and women of the Brookfield and LaGrange Police and Fire Departments for receiving this recognition by the Brookfield-LaGrange Lions Club and for going beyond the call of duty to help others; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Paramedic/Firefighter Susan Breen, Paramedic/Firefighter Terry Chiappetta, Paramedic/Firefighter Patrick Hurley, and Paramedic/Firefighter Ryan Leavitt, Sam Pulia, Sergeant Fred Marek, Officer Richard Sebek, Officer Paul Lanzi, and Lieutenant Jon Hultman as symbols of our respect and esteem.
