HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Judge James M. Wexstten on being named to fill the vacant position on the Fifth District Appellate Court; and

WHEREAS, Judge Wexstten has served as the circuit judge in the 13-county Second Judicial Circuit since 1988, and has been elected judge twice; and

WHEREAS, Judge Wexstten is a graduate of Nokomis High School, attended Kaskaskia College, and graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with his bachelor's and law degrees; and

WHEREAS, Judge Wexstten was "highly recommended" by a 2002 Illinois State Bar Association judicial evaluation for the office of justice of the appellate court, and his retention numbers have been consistently high; and

WHEREAS, Judge Wexstten was admitted to practice law in 1977; he also was admitted to practice in the United States District Court/Southern District and the United States Court of Appeals in the 7th District; and

WHEREAS, Judge Wexstten is the immediate past president of the Illinois Judges Association, past president of the Jefferson County Bar Association, and has served on numerous Illinois State Bar Association and Supreme Court committees; before becoming a judge, he was in private practice and served as bankruptcy trustee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Judge Wexstten's appointment begins February 2, 2007 and will end on December 1, 2008 when the position is filled at the general election held in November of 2008; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Judge James Wexstten on being named to fill the position on the Fifth District Appellate Court; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Judge Wexstten as an expression of our respect and esteem.
