HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3 members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened
4 to learn of the death of Herbert Bias, Sr. of Chicago, who
5 passed away on March 6, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Herbert Bias, Sr. was born on September 30, 1939
7 in Harriston, Mississippi; he relocated to Chicago in 1962; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He and his wife, Ann, opened their first McDonalds
9 Restaurant in 1984; together, they went on to operate McDonalds
10 on 87th and Wabash, 65th and Stony Island, 115th and St.
11 Lawrence, and 95th and Jeffrey streets on Chicago's southside;
12 Mr. Bias was an active member of the Black McDonalds Owners
13 Association and involved with community and social concerns;
14 and
 
15     WHEREAS, In 2002 Mr. Bias was selected to be a torch bearer
16 at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Herbert Bias Sr. is survived by his wife, Ann; his
18 son, Herbert Bias, Jr.; his daughter, Joy Johnson (the past
19 president of the NBA Wives Behind the Bench; son-in-law and
20 former NBA basketball player Eddie Johnson, who played for the
21 Seattle Supersonics, Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Hornets,

1 Indiana Pacers, and Houston Rockets; his three grandchildren;
2 his brother, his two sisters; his six sisters-in-law; his six
3 brothers-in-law; and many other relatives and friends;
4 therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
8 Herbert Bias, Sr. and extend our condolences at this time; and
9 be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Herbert Bias, Sr. as a symbol of our
12 sympathy.
