HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the members of the Illinois House of Representatives that Ken Bartels of Elmhurst is the recipient of the 56th Distinguished Service Award given by the Elmhurst Jaycees; and

WHEREAS, The Distinguished Service Award is an annual award given to a citizen in recognition of his or her dedication to making the City of Elmhurst a better community; and

WHEREAS, Ken Bartels has served as the Vice President of College Advancement at Elmhurst College since 1981; and he has been a Director of the Community Bank of Elmhurst since 1999; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bartels has been active in the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry for more than 20 years and has been a member of the Rotary Club of Elmhurst for 25 years, serving 10 years as a director; he is also a board member and an endowment trust member of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra; in addition, he has been active with many other Elmhurst community groups; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bartels is known in the community as the TV voice of the Elmhurst Memorial Day Parade, the opening ceremonies at Elmfest, and as a part of the "Elmhurst Our Kind of Town" television series; and

WHEREAS, Ken Bartels was married to Claire, who passed away after battling cancer in 1995; in her memory he created the Walk for Hope to raise money to fight cancer; and

WHEREAS, Ken Bartels is married to Marge and has three children, Amy, Brittney, and Jacob; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bartels will be honored at the Distinguished Service Award dinner at the River Forest Country Club on April 18, 2007; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ken Bartels on being the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award given by the Elmhurst Jaycees; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ken Bartels as a symbol of our respect.
