HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor Captain Ken Madsen, a
4 native of Bloomingdale, on being named Top Flight Lead of the
5 494th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron on their deployment to
6 southwest Asia and on being named Wingman of the Year for the
7 squadron; and
 
8     WHEREAS, As a young man Ken Madsen knew he wanted to be in
9 the sky; after graduation from St. Walter School in Roselle and
10 Driscoll Catholic High School in Addison, he began a training
11 program to become a United States Air Force F15E fighter jet
12 pilot; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Ken Madsen graduated from the ROTC program at the
14 University of Illinois-Urbana in 2002 and immediately entered
15 the Air Force officer training program; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He first learned to pilot T37 transport jets, then
17 he graduated to a T38 jet; because he did so well he was again
18 advanced to fly the F15 Strike Eagle at Moody Air Force Base in
19 Valdosta, Georgia; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The 494th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron has
21 flown 970 combat sorties and approximately 6,500 total flying

1 hours; they have flown 890 missions in support of Operation
2 Iraqi Freedom, 82 missions supporting Operation Enduring
3 Freedom, 62 total weapons expenditures, and dropped
4 approximately 34,000 pounds of munitions; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate Captain Ken Madsen on being named Top Flight Lead
8 of the 494th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron on their deployment
9 to southwest Asia and on being named Wingman of the Year for
10 the squadron; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Captain Ken Madsen as a symbol of our respect and
13 esteem.
