HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James "Mike" Brennan of Springfield, who passed away on October 24, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Mike Brennan was born on August 8, 1948 in Springfield; he was the son of James William and Darlene Surbeck Brennan; he married Molly Oakey on April 24, 1981 in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, Mike Brennan served faithfully with the Springfield Fire Department for 29 years; he also served as a lobbyist for the Associated Firefighters of Illinois (AFFI) for 29 years and as legislative director of the Illinois Sheriffs Association for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Mike Brennan was a member of numerous civic and community organizations, including the St. Agnes Catholic Church, Springfield Firefighters Local 37, and the Associated Firefighters of Illinois; he was also a legislative representative emeritus of AFFI and the Firefighters Lake Club; and

WHEREAS, Mike Brennan was an avid golfer; his most cherished activity, however, was spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and his many friends; and

WHEREAS, Mike Brennan was preceded in death by his father, William Brennan; and

WHEREAS, Mike Brennan is survived by his wife, Molly; his children, Matthew Brennan, Michael (wife, Kari) Brennan, and Melissa (husband, Dave) Wilson; his grandchildren, Michael and Megan Wilson, Tyler and Austin Brennan, and Karli Christine and Emma Brennan; his mother, Darlene Brennan; his sisters, Pamela (husband, Thomas) Maskey and Patty (husband, Kenny) Kress; and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and

WHEREAS, Mike Brennan will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a kind and gregarious man whose sense of humor and intense dedication to his family, friends and fellow firefighters endeared him to all he met; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James "Mike" Brennan; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James "Mike" Brennan as an expression of our sympathy.
