HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Mary Welsh, an esteemed resident of Naperville, a member of the Girl Scouts-Fox Valley Council in Sugar Grove, and a senior at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

WHEREAS, Mary Welsh earned this award by helping raise almost $10,000 by organizing a team of 15 members to walk in an American Cancer Society Relay for Life; she was motivated by the untimely death of her father to cancer, and promoted the event, recruited walkers, managed her team's camp-site, and solicited sponsors; and

WHEREAS, The success of the State of Illinois, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Mary Welsh who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mary Welsh on being a recipient of a 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Award, recognizing her outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit, and extend our best wishes for her continued success and happiness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mary Welsh as a symbol of our esteem.
