HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the residents of
4 the City of Colchester on the occasion of receiving a 2008
5 Governor's Home Town Award from the Illinois Department of
6 Commerce and Economic Opportunity; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The Governor's Home Town Awards are awarded by the
8 Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to
9 recognize hard-working and committed volunteers within the
10 State who greatly improve the communities in which they live;
11 the awards are presented in a number of categories, based on
12 community population; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Numerous volunteers in the City of Colchester
14 logged over three thousand miles to gather input from area
15 residents to plan for the creation of a veterans monument;
16 forming the group Colchester Community Connections, the
17 volunteers collected ideas and carefully formulated their
18 plan; thanks to their concerted efforts, $38,000 in funds were
19 raised along with $2,600 worth of donated materials; in May of
20 2007, the Colchester Veterans Memorial was unveiled to serve as
21 a fitting tribute to the men and women of Colchester who have
22 defended our nation; and

1     WHEREAS, The residents of the City of Colchester serve as
2 models of generosity, dedication, and integrity for the people
3 of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 congratulate the residents of the City of Colchester on the
7 occasion of receiving a 2008 Governor's Home Town Award and
8 wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be
9 it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to Joe Wetzel, Mayor of Colchester, as a symbol of
12 our esteem and respect.
