HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The City of Elgin was willed a tract of land in
3 far west Elgin in 1902; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The City of Elgin built a golf course on this land
5 in 1908, naming it Wing Park Golf Course; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The City of Elgin opened the golf course for
7 public play in 1908; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The City of Elgin has continuously owned and
9 operated the golf course since 1908; and
 
10     WHEREAS, The City of Elgin has named the golf course The
11 Wing Park Golf Course; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The Wing Park Golf Course is the oldest nine-hole
13 municipal golf course in the State of Illinois; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The Wing Park Golf Course hosted the Illinois
15 National Guard Encampment in 1909 and 1911; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The City of Elgin Historic Commission has
17 recognized the Wing Park Golf Course as a Historic Place; and

1     WHEREAS, The National Registry of Historic Places has
2 recognized the Wing Park Golf Course as a National Historic
3 Place; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The City of Elgin continues to maintain the Wing
5 Park Golf Course for the use and benefit of citizens throughout
6 the northeastern Illinois region; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 congratulate the City of Elgin on the occasion of the 100th
10 anniversary of the Wing Park Golf Course and offer our best
11 wishes for the course's continued success; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to City of Elgin Mayor Edward Schock as a symbol of
14 our esteem and respect.
