HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Tony Mihalo, who was killed in action in Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Tony Mihalo was a 2004 graduate of Naperville North High School, where he played football, played basketball, and wrestled; and

WHEREAS, After the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Corporal Tony Mihalo joined the United States Marine Corps while still a student at Naperville North High School, serving with the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Regiment; after completing two tours of duty in Iraq, he expected to stay in the United States, but later agreed to serve in Afghanistan in early 2008, after the Marines asked for combat veterans to lead units there; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Tony Mihalo was awarded three Purple Hearts for his service in Iraq and was awarded a fourth Purple Heart after he was wounded in July of 2008 in Afghanistan; he also earned two Combat Action Ribbons and a unit Certificate of Commendation, among other accolades; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Tony Mihalo enjoyed watching the History Channel and professional wrestling; he planned to complete the last two credits of his associate's degree and begin studying criminal justice when he returned home in October; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Tony Mihalo is survived by his mother, Debbie (Bill) Wolfe; his sisters, Barbara and Christine; his brother, Michael; and his fiancee, Megan Allen; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Tony Mihalo will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a patriotic and fun-loving person whose dedication to his country, his unit, and his family was unmatched; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Tony Mihalo; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Corporal Tony Mihalo and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Corporal Tony Mihalo as an expression of our sympathy.
