HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestones in the
4 lives of people in the State of Illinois; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Katie Schumacher-Cawley will be honored with
6 induction into the Chicagoland Hall of Fame for sports in the
7 near future; and
 
8     WHEREAS, During Katie's freshmen year at Mother McAuley
9 High School, her varsity volleyball team won second in State
10 and her varsity basketball team was fourth in State; both teams
11 were GCAC champions; during her sophomore year, her volleyball
12 team won the State championship and was ranked third in the
13 nation; they were again GCAC champions; her basketball team was
14 second in the State and GCAC champions; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Katie's junior year saw her volleyball team become
16 State champions, number one in the nation, and GCAC champions;
17 her basketball team were again GCAC champions; during her
18 senior year she set a kill record for a State match at 28
19 kills; her volleyball team was second in the State and both her
20 volleyball and basketball teams were GCAC champions; and
 
21     WHEREAS, In addition Katie was named the 1996 Player of the

1 Year by the Star Newspaper and the 1997 Chicago Sun-Times
2 Female Athlete of the Year, all conference; she was inducted
3 into the GCAC Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Catholic League Hall
4 of Fame in 2003; and
 
5     WHEREAS, At Pennsylvania State University, her volleyball
6 team emerged victorious as Big 10 Champions during her freshmen
7 and sophomore years, All Big 10 during her sophomore, junior,
8 and senior years, and All Region her senior year; and
 
9     WHEREAS, After college Katie trained in Colorado Springs
10 with the U.S.A. Volleyball team; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Since 2003 she has been an assistant coach at the
12 University of Illinois in Chicago; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 congratulate Katie Schumacher-Cawley on this great moment in
16 her life; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Katie Schumacher-Cawley as a symbol of our
19 respect.
