HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize milestones in the lives of people in the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Katie Schumacher-Cawley will be honored with induction into the Chicagoland Hall of Fame for sports in the near future; and

WHEREAS, During Katie's freshmen year at Mother McAuley High School, her varsity volleyball team won second in State and her varsity basketball team was fourth in State; both teams were GCAC champions; during her sophomore year, her volleyball team won the State championship and was ranked third in the nation; they were again GCAC champions; her basketball team was second in the State and GCAC champions; and

WHEREAS, Katie's junior year saw her volleyball team become State champions, number one in the nation, and GCAC champions; her basketball team were again GCAC champions; during her senior year she set a kill record for a State match at 28 kills; her volleyball team was second in the State and both her volleyball and basketball teams were GCAC champions; and

WHEREAS, In addition Katie was named the 1996 Player of the Year by the Star Newspaper and the 1997 Chicago Sun-Times Female Athlete of the Year, all conference; she was inducted into the GCAC Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Catholic League Hall of Fame in 2003; and

WHEREAS, At Pennsylvania State University, her volleyball team emerged victorious as Big 10 Champions during her freshmen and sophomore years, All Big 10 during her sophomore, junior, and senior years, and All Region her senior year; and

WHEREAS, After college Katie trained in Colorado Springs with the U.S.A. Volleyball team; and

WHEREAS, Since 2003 she has been an assistant coach at the University of Illinois in Chicago; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Katie Schumacher-Cawley on this great moment in her life; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Katie Schumacher-Cawley as a symbol of our respect.
