HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize milestones in the lives of citizens of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Joseph B. Kirsner, M.D., Ph.D. of the University of Chicago Medical Center, will be celebrating his 100th birthday on September 21, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kirsner was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 21, 1909 to Ukrainian immigrants; he was married to Minnie Schneider, who passed away in 1998; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kirsner has his M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine, his Ph.D from the University of Chicago, and received an Honorary D.Sci from Tufts University School of Medicine; and

WHEREAS, Over the years Dr. Kirsner became known as a man who cared about research, teaching students, residents, and colleagues, and caring for his patients; he served as a prominent researcher, educator, and clinician, as well as mentoring young students throughout the years; and

WHEREAS, He will celebrate this day with his son Robert S. Kirsner, a tenured professor in Germanic Languages at UCLA and a Visiting Professor in Dutch Language at the University of Arizona, and his grandchildren, Rachel Kirsner-Schneider and Daniel Kirsner; as well as other family members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we wish Dr. Joseph Kirsner a special birthday, filled with fond memories of his eventful life; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Joseph B. Kirsner as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
