HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Brooke Tippet Thompson on the occasion of winning a Golden Apple Teaching Award; and

WHEREAS, The Golden Apple Teaching Award was created in 1985 to honor outstanding Chicago-area teachers; the program has grown into an institution that continues to recognize gifted teachers, as well as prepare and strengthen teachers who make a critical difference in the lives of all children, particularly those from disadvantaged schools; and

WHEREAS, Brooke Tippet Thompson has been teaching Kindergarten through eighth grade music at the Pierce School of International Studies in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood for the past 10 years; a former opera singer, she uses music to reinforce lessons in language arts, math, and science; she also holds national certification for teaching music; and

WHEREAS, For winning the Golden Apple Teaching Award, Brooke Tippet Thompson will receive a tuition-free spring-term sabbatical at Northwestern University, a personal computer from IBM, $3,000, and membership into the Golden Apple Academy of Educators; and

WHEREAS, Brooke Tippet Thompson serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Brooke Tippet Thompson on occasion of winning a Golden Apple Teaching Award and wish her continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Brooke Tippet Thompson as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
