HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Samina Khan on the occasion of winning a Golden Apple Teaching Award; and

WHEREAS, The Golden Apple Teaching Award was created in 1985 to honor outstanding Chicago-area teachers; the program has grown into an institution that continues to recognize gifted teachers, as well as prepare and strengthen teachers who make a critical difference in the lives of all children, particularly those from disadvantaged schools; and

WHEREAS, Samina Khan, a graduate of Northeastern University, teaches sixth through eighth grade science at Clark Academic Preparatory Magnet High School in Chicago; her students regularly compete and receive accolades at a number of science fairs; she was recruited by the Chicago Public Schools through the Global Educators Outreach program, which selected only 50 people from a pool of thousands of candidates from 23 counties; and

WHEREAS, For winning the Golden Apple Teaching Award, Samina Khan will receive a tuition-free spring-term sabbatical at Northwestern University, a personal computer from IBM, $3,000, and membership into the Golden Apple Academy of Educators; and

WHEREAS, Samina Khan serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Samina Khan on occasion of winning a Golden Apple Teaching Award and wish her continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Samina Khan as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
