HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Samina Khan on the
4 occasion of winning a Golden Apple Teaching Award; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The Golden Apple Teaching Award was created in
6 1985 to honor outstanding Chicago-area teachers; the program
7 has grown into an institution that continues to recognize
8 gifted teachers, as well as prepare and strengthen teachers who
9 make a critical difference in the lives of all children,
10 particularly those from disadvantaged schools; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Samina Khan, a graduate of Northeastern
12 University, teaches sixth through eighth grade science at Clark
13 Academic Preparatory Magnet High School in Chicago; her
14 students regularly compete and receive accolades at a number of
15 science fairs; she was recruited by the Chicago Public Schools
16 through the Global Educators Outreach program, which selected
17 only 50 people from a pool of thousands of candidates from 23
18 counties; and
 
19     WHEREAS, For winning the Golden Apple Teaching Award,
20 Samina Khan will receive a tuition-free spring-term sabbatical
21 at Northwestern University, a personal computer from IBM,
22 $3,000, and membership into the Golden Apple Academy of

1 Educators; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Samina Khan serves as a model of hard work,
3 integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
4 Illinois; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate Samina Khan on occasion of winning a Golden Apple
8 Teaching Award and wish her continued success in the future;
9 and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to Samina Khan as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
