HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sharnell S. Jackson on the occasion of her retirement as Chief eLearning Officer with the Chicago Public Schools Information & Technology Services after 34 years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Sharnell S. Jackson holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Graceland College in Iowa, a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from National-Louis University in Evanston, a master's degree in educational leadership and administration from Lewis University in Illinois, and a master's degree in mathematics, science, and instructional technology from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Sharnell S. Jackson has had a long and distinguished career in education; she began her career with Chicago Public Schools in September of 1974 as a kindergarten teacher at Caldwell Elementary in Chicago; she was promoted to the position of Chief eLearning Officer with the Chicago Public Schools Information & Technology Services in 2005, remaining there until her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Sharnell S. Jackson has served on numerous advisory boards, councils, and committees; she has worked with such organizations as the National Forum on Education Statistics PK-12 Data Model Task Force; she was a Chicago Public Schools Response to Intervention (RTI+) Team Member for all areas of the tiered level support strategies, the City of Chicago Mayor's Advisory Council Member on Closing the Digital Divide, a Past President-Elect of the Illinois Computing Educators (ICE), and a U.S. Department of Education Regional Advisory Council Member (RAC) and committee chair; she is a University of Chicago High School Sciences Fellow and a NASA Math, Science and Instructional Technology Master Teacher Cadre Fellow Member; she is a board member of the Consortium for Schools Networking (CoSN); she is a member of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Policy and Advocacy Committee, the National Educational Technology for Students (NETS) Refresh Advisory Committee, and the National Educational Advisory Board for Cable in the Classroom; she was also a member of the Education Advisory Panel for the Schools Interoperability Framework Association (SIFA and SCORM) and the Illinois Technology Association (ITA); and

WHEREAS, Sharnell S. Jackson has received numerous awards for her work; she was a finalist for the 1997 Golden Apple Foundation Award; she was awarded the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA) 1996 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the 2007 Apple Distinguished Educator of the Year Award, and the Illinois Science Educator of the Year Award; she was also an Intel Teach to the Future Program Foundation and Corporate Funding Recipient; and

WHEREAS, Despite her voluminous body of work, Sharnell S. Jackson's proudest accomplishments are her 33-year marriage to her husband, Martin Jackson, her son, Martin Jackson II, her daughter, Jisun MacFarland, her son-in-law, Derrick MacFarland, and her granddaughter, Daja Nagra-Jackson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Sharnell S. Jackson on the occasion of her retirement and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sharnell S. Jackson as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
