HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mother
4 Hattie Singleton of Chicago, who passed away on March 25, 2008;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, She was born on March 27, 1922 in West Point,
7 Mississippi; she confessed Christ as her Savior and was
8 baptized at an early age; she met and married Earl Singleton in
9 1940, at the age of thirteen; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She graduated from Lucy Flowers High School; she
11 received her nursing degree from Cook County Hospital; she
12 began working for the Chicago Board of Education in 1967; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mother Singleton was a School Community
14 Representative for the Board of Education for 27 years; she was
15 a delegate for the Chicago Teachers Union, was a Girl Scout
16 leader, a fundraiser for the Henry Booth House, and the
17 co-founder of 7 Knights and 2 Queens, was a member of the
18 Ickes, Prairie, Archer Community Action Committee, was an
19 advisor for the 21st District Chicago Police Department
20 Explorer Scouts, served as her neighborhood CAPS facilitator,
21 and was involved with the Neighborhood Housing Organization;
22 she received many awards and honors over the years for her good

2     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; her
3 parents; her children, Earl III, Edward, Ernest, Eric, Elaine,
4 Evelyn, and Ellen; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mother Singleton is survived by her sons, Eugene,
6 Elvis (Priscilla), and Eitel (Pam); her daughters, Edwina and
7 Helena; her daughter in Christ, Regina; her grandchildren,
8 Renard, Steven, Lolita, Aaron, Stephanie, Anthony, Dwaine,
9 Keith, Latisha, Edward, Reginald, Jeanine, Parish, and
10 Michael; her many great-grandchildren and
11 great-great-grandchildren; her aunts, uncles, other family
12 members, and many friends; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Mother
16 Hattie Singleton; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Mother Hattie Singleton as a symbol
19 of our sympathy.
