1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The institution of marriage is one of the
3 cornerstones upon which our society is built, and a marriage
4 that has achieved a notable longevity is truly a model for the
5 people of the State of Illinois; and

6     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
7 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Vergil and Violet
8 Fletcher on the occasion of their 70th wedding anniversary; and

9     WHEREAS, Vergil and the former Violet Foli were married on
10 June 9, 1938 in the rectory at St. Paul Catholic Church in
11 Johnson City by the Reverend Charles Havey; and

12     WHEREAS, Vergil and Violet Fletcher are active members of
13 Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville; he retired
14 in 1978 as a teacher and coach at Collinsville High School and
15 served on the Madison County Board and the Prairie State Games
16 following his retirement; she is a homemaker and has been
17 active in her community, serving on the Collinsville school
18 board; and

19     WHEREAS, Vergil and Violet Fletcher have two sons, Michael
20 (Margie) Fletcher and Marc (Joan) Fletcher; four daughters,
21 Marietta (Marion) Thompson, Marlene (Joseph) Rotter, Marci

1 Yates, and Marian (Bruce) Evans; and 13 grandchildren and 14
2 great-grandchildren; and

3     WHEREAS, Vergil and Violet Fletcher stand as examples of
4 the best of our society, and their love and devotion to each
5 other and to their family and friends serve as a reminder to
6 all that hard work, dedication, and love can make a difference
7 in today's world; therefore, be it

8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 congratulate Vergil and Violet Fletcher on the occasion of
11 their 70th wedding anniversary; that we commend them for
12 achieving a long and happy marriage, blessed with children,
13 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and rich in
14 friendships; and that we wish them happiness and good health in
15 the future; and be it further

16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Vergil and Violet Fletcher as a symbol of our
18 esteem and respect.
