1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr.
4 Harvey "Dick" Scott III of Jacksonville, who passed away on May
5 27, 2008; and

6     WHEREAS, Dr. Harvey Scott III was born on June 30, 1950 in
7 Chicago; he was the son of Dr. Harvey D. and Audrey Grone Scott
8 II; and

9     WHEREAS, Dr. Harvey Scott III was a 1968 graduate of
10 Jacksonville High School, where he excelled in football and
11 academics; he completed his undergraduate studies at St. Olaf
12 College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he played rugby and
13 graduated cum laude; he chose to follow in his father's
14 footsteps and pursue a career in medicine, enrolling at
15 Northwestern University Medical School in the fall of 1972; he
16 completed his studies in June of 1976 and finished his
17 residency at the university's hospital in 1981; he joined the
18 staff of Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville on July 1,
19 1981; and

20     WHEREAS, Dr. Harvey Scott III served on the Passavant Area
21 Hospital Board of Directors; he served as Chairman of the
22 Department of Surgery at Passavant, Chairman of the Tissue

1 Committee, and Secretary of the Medical Staff; he served as
2 President of the Morgan-Scott Medical Society; he was a member
3 of the American Medical Society, the Illinois State Medical
4 Society, the Central Illinois Orthopaedic Society, the
5 Illinois Orthopaedic Society, and the Mid-American Orthopaedic
6 Society; he was also a Diplomate of the American Board of
7 Orthopaedic Surgery, a Fellow of the American Academy of
8 Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of
9 Surgeons; and

10     WHEREAS, Dr. Harvey Scott III was a long-time member and
11 former elder of First Presbyterian Church; he was a member of
12 the Board of Trustees at Illinois College and the Board of
13 Directors of Jacksonville Savings Bank and Financial Resources
14 Group; he was an avid supporter of the Illinois College Fine
15 Arts Series and the Jacksonville Art Association, and he
16 volunteered in the overseeing of Liberty Cemetery; he was also
17 proud to have participated in the 2006 In His Service mission
18 trip to Haiti; and

19     WHEREAS, Dr. Harvey Scott III was recognized by the
20 Jacksonville High School football team in 2002 for 20 years of
21 dedicated volunteer service to the team and was a recipient of
22 the Jacksonville Journal-Courier Reader's Choice Award for
23 Best Physician; and

1     WHEREAS, In his free time, Dr. Harvey Scott III enjoyed
2 bicycling and traveling; he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan; and

3     WHEREAS, Dr. Harvey Scott III was preceded in death by his
4 parents; and

5     WHEREAS, Dr. Harvey Scott III is survived by his sons, Tim
6 Scott and Dan Scott; and his brothers, Tom (wife, Jenny) Scott
7 and James (wife, Donna) Scott; therefore, be it

8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr.
11 Harvey "Dick" Scott III; and be it further

12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Dr. Harvey "Dick" Scott III as an
14 expression of our sympathy.
