HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Steve Stromquist of Durand, who passed away on May 22, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist was born on August 22, 1955 in Rockford; he was the son of John and Marian (Holmer) Stromquist; he married the former Susan K. Norman on July 9, 1983 in Fulton; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist graduated from Durand High School with the class of 1974; he played football, baseball, basketball, track, and was all-state in football in his junior year; he was awarded for citizenship, leadership, and community service by the 4-H Key Club in 1973 and was honored as a top 4-H Boy in 1974; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor of science degree in 1978; he earned his master of science degree in 1980 from Ohio State University; in 1981, he performed advance graduate work at Northern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist was employed as a science teacher with the Hononegah School District since 1981; he also coached high school football and girls softball and received several Coach of the Year awards; and

WHEREAS, As Hononegah's 13-year football coach, he led the team to a 76-51 record from 1992-2004; he coached five playoff teams, including Hononegah's 1996 team that went undefeated in the NIC-9, reached the Class 5A semifinals, and finished 12-1; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist was an adviser of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was a former adviser of Future Farmers of America; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, golfing, and his dogs; he was an avid fan of Ohio State University, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockton; and

WHEREAS, In partnership with his father, Steve Stromquist raised and bred Columbia and Katahdin hair sheep on White Post Farm; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist was preceded in death by his grandparents and his nephew; and

WHEREAS, Steve Stromquist is survived by his wife, Susan; his parents; his sisters, Jill (Rich) Schraiber and Karen Sargent; his niece, Annika Sargent; his nephew, Jon Sargent; and his several aunts, uncles, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Steve Stromquist; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Steve Stromquist as an expression of our sympathy.
