HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Caren Nickelsen on the occasion of being named as the Woman of the Year by the Altrusa International Club of Elgin; and

WHEREAS, The Altrusa International Club of Elgin presents the Woman of the Year Award to those women who best embody the Altrusa Keys of Altruism, Loyalty, Talent, Reciprocity, Unity, Service, and Achievement; and

WHEREAS, Caren Nickelsen has been an active member in her community; she is a Board Member of the Elgin Community College Foundation and is involved in all of the foundation's special events; she is involved with numerous special events in the greater Elgin area, including the Gail Borden Library's Abe Lincoln fundraising event; she is the founder, president, and long-time board member of Elgin Enrichment Series, which has brought people of notoriety, arts, and culture to Elgin for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Caren Nickelsen is a longtime member and has served as president of the Elgin PEO group; she is a member of the University of Illinois President's Council, the North Park University President's Club, an emeritus and charity ball chairperson of the Fideliter Club, and an auxiliary member of Sherman Hospital; in addition, she is a member and has served as banquet chairperson of the Wesley United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Caren Nickelsen is a member of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra 50th Anniversary Gala committee and has volunteered for the Jayne Shover Easter Seal telethon for many years; she served as the chair for many YMCA events, including the Leader Luncheon and individual awards; she is a member of the Larkin Parents's Association and the Elgin Academy Board of Trustees, and serves as an instructor for the YMCA Indochinese Refugee Program - English as a Second Language; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her voluminous body of volunteer work, Caren Nickelsen works with her husband in his long-time Elgin pediatric practice; she is a caring mother to three adult children and a proud grandmother, fundraiser, and friend; and

WHEREAS, Caren Nickelsen's devotion, dedication, leadership skills, giving and unselfish nature, wisdom, and ability to succeed make her supremely qualified for both the Woman of the Year Award and the respect of the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Caren Nickelsen on the occasion of being named as the Woman of the Year by the Altrusa International Club of Elgin and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Caren Nickelsen as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
