HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor the Franklin Park Fire
4 Department firefighters who are being honored with medals of
5 honor at the Illinois Firefighters Memorial at the Illinois
6 State Capitol in Springfield; and
 
7     WHEREAS, On September 8, 2006 at 0700 hours the Schiller
8 Park Fire Department responded to a fire in an apartment
9 building; upon arrival smoke was showing and a fire was located
10 in a first floor apartment; Franklin Park Ladder Co. 2,
11 consisting of Lieutenant Jack Berry, Lieutenant Tim Monroe,
12 Firefighter Garry Ligmanowski, and Firefighter Douglas
13 Halverson, was assigned to search the 3rd floor apartment in
14 the rear after a report that a child could still be in an
15 apartment; with a smoke condition present from the fire on the
16 lower floor, the crew from Ladder Co. 2 broke up into two
17 groups with Lieutenant Berry and Firefighter Ligmanowski
18 ventilating hallway windows and searching one apartment and
19 Lieutenant Monroe and Firefighter Halverson checking the other
20 apartment; Lieutenant Monroe and Firefighter Halverson found a
21 young girl who was located hiding in a closet in a smoke filled
22 apartment; both crews assisted the young girl down the stairs
23 and gave her to Paramedics from Schiller Park so she could be
24 given medical treatment; and

1     WHEREAS, On July 21, 2006 the Hillside Fire Department
2 responded to a house fire; upon arrival they discovered a fire
3 in a private dwelling; Chief Traiforos from the Franklin Park
4 Fire Department was dispatched to the fire in Hillside as the
5 Incident Safety Officer; when Chief Traiforos arrived on the
6 scene he was assigned to supervise the rear of the fire; with
7 the fire spreading the alarm escalated and Franklin Park Ladder
8 Co. 2 was dispatched on the 3rd alarm; the crew consisted of
9 Acting Officer Daniel Fidonik, Firefighter Garry Ligmanowski,
10 and Firefighter Douglas Halverson; and
 
11     WHEREAS, On arrival Ladder Co. 2 was assigned to report to
12 the rear of the fire building working under the supervision of
13 Chief Traiforos; while attempting to remove a door located in
14 the rear of the house, a Firefighter from River Grove fell
15 through the floor and into the burning basement; Firefighter
16 Fidonik notified Chief Traiforos of the situation and Chief
17 Traiforos declared a "MAYDAY" for a Firefighter down; members
18 of Franklin Park Ladder Co.2 assisted by members of River Grove
19 Engine 565, consisting of Lieutenant Jason Lambert, Lieutenant
20 Rich Savoia, Firefighter Brian Clarke, and Bellwood
21 Firefighter Chris LaValley, went to the aid of the fallen
22 firefighter; the fire escalated to another alarm and a Rapid
23 Intervention Team (RIT) from Elmhurst responded to also aid the
24 downed Firefighter; and

1     WHEREAS, Thanks to training and experience, the
2 firefighters were able to assist the downed firefighter and he
3 was rescued within a minute; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Timothy Moore, Firefighter Daniel
5 Fidonik, Firefighter Douglas Halverson, Firefighter Garry
6 Ligmanowski, and Lieutenant Jack Berry will be awarded medals
7 of honor for their bravery and dedication; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 congratulate these brave men and wish them continued safety and
11 the watchful eyes of their fellow firefighters as they continue
12 to serve their communities; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14 presented to Lieutenant Timothy Moore, Firefighter Daniel
15 Fidonik, Firefighter Douglas Halverson, Firefighter Garry
16 Ligmanowski, and Lieutenant Jack Berry as symbols of our
17 respect.
