HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Candice Parker on the occasion of being the first player drafted in the 2008 WNBA Draft; and

WHEREAS, A 2004 graduate of Naperville Central High School, Candice Parker has proven to be an exceptional basketball player throughout her career, having been compared to basketball greats such as LeBron James; as a member of the University of Tennessee's basketball team, she scored 17 points and 9 rebounds during the team's 64-48 national championship victory over Stanford; she put on this great performance despite the fact that she was nursing a shoulder that she separated a week earlier against Texas A&M; and

WHEREAS, Candice Parker was picked as the number one draft choice during the WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks; she will graduate from the University of Tennessee in May of 2008; and

WHEREAS, Candice Parker serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Candice Parker on the occasion of being the first player drafted in the 2008 WNBA Draft and wish her continued success and happiness in her future career; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Candice Parker as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
