HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the members of the
3 Illinois House of Representatives that Peter England, Chief
4 Executive Officer of the Chicago Children's Museum, will retire
5 on April 30, 2008; and
 
6     WHEREAS, A New Zealand native, he has over thirty-six years
7 of professional experience in the private sector; thirty-three
8 of those years were spent at Unilever, a global consumer
9 conglomerate in which he served a number of senior management
10 and chief executive positions including president and CEO of
11 Elizabeth Arden; he began his career there in brand management
12 and marketing; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He helped three companies within Unilever move
14 from unprofitable business positions to stabilized or
15 dramatically improved financial situations; he left Unilever
16 in January of 2000, after declining an offer to serve as
17 Chairman of the company; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He has served as a board member of the NorthCare
19 Foundation, which is a medical education and research
20 foundation in Australia; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Mr. England relocated to the Chicago area in June

1 2001 to be closer to his children and take over the helm of the
2 Chicago Children's Museum, where he serves as Chief Executive
3 Officer; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Mr. England's extraordinary vision and leadership
5 has had a profound impact upon the Chicago Children's Museum
6 during his tenure; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He currently serves as a board member for i.c.
8 stars and Illinois Action for Children; and
 
9     WHEREAS, His quirky wit, honesty, commitment, and passion
10 have served the museum well for seven years; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He seems to be a brand ambassador for both
12 Starbucks coffee and BlackBerrys, much to the chagrin of his
13 staff; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He has been an excellent Chief Executive Officer,
15 a loyal friend, and a wonderful husband, father, and
16 grandfather to three (soon to be four) grandchildren;
17 therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20 congratulate Peter England on his retirement and wish him

1 continued success in his future endeavors; and be it further
 
2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to Peter England as a symbol of our respect.
