HR1247 - 2 - LRB095 20929 KXB 49870 r

WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women was
founded on November 28, 1881; and

WHEREAS, The American Association of University Women of
Illinois advances the American Association of University
Women's 127-year legacy of leadership on behalf of women and
girls; and

WHEREAS, On April 22, 2008 Governor Rod Blagojevich
proclaimed Equal Pay Day in Illinois; the Census Bureau reports
that, on average, a woman earns 77 cents for every dollar
earned by a man; the numbers are even worse for women of color;
for the average woman's salary to equal that of a man in 2007,
she would have had to work from January 1, 2007, until April
22, 2008; Equal Pay Day raises awareness about this critical
gender pay disparity; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
congratulate the American Association of University Women on
Equal Pay Day in Illinois and on their annual Lobby Day; and
urge all the citizens of the State of Illinois to recognize the
value of education and an equitable society and the laudable
work of the American Association of University Women; and be it
further
