HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Karyn and Michael
4 Lutz of Deerfield as they are honored at the Jewish Council for
5 Youth Services (JCYS) 100th anniversary celebration; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Karyn and Michael Lutz are dedicated to the
7 education and development of children, in addition to their
8 involvement with JCYS; Karyn began her career in education with
9 a position as first grade teacher at Byrd School in Chicago,
10 where she received the best new teacher award in 1966; she also
11 taught and served as Director of the Willow Wood Preschool in
12 Winnetka; she was an active participant in the Sager Solomon
13 Schechter Day School PTO, including serving as President while
14 her children attended the school; and she is a former President
15 and active member of the Women's Board of the Jewish Community
16 Center (JCC) in Chicago and is still an active member of the
17 JCC General Board; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Michael and his wife have mentored two students at
19 Roosevelt High School; he has conducted a weekly reading
20 session for third graders at Pablo Casals Elementary School for
21 the last eight years; and he served as a board member of Centro
22 Nuestro on North Avenue in Chicago; and

1     WHEREAS, Michael began his relationship with JCYS as a
2 teenager and member of the Deborah Boys' Club; he also attended
3 Camp Henry Horner with the Chuck Deaser family; he joined the
4 Young Men's Board of Directors in 1968 and later became
5 President in 1977; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Lutz have contributed to JCYS to
7 acquire and renovate the JCYS George W. Lutz Family Center in
8 Highland Park and are helping to build a new structure in
9 memory of Lillian Lutz in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago;
10 and
 
11     WHEREAS, Karyn and Michael will be honored at the Jewish
12 Council for Youth Services 100th anniversary gala on May 2,
13 2008; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16 congratulate Karyn and Michael Lutz on this deserving honor;
17 and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Karyn and Michael Lutz as a symbol of our respect
20 and esteem.
