HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor three police officers who fell in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, Night Marshal Zachary Shipley was shot and killed on the evening of January 15, 1909 as a result of his enforcement of the local liquor laws; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris was shot and killed on May 27, 1967 during a traffic stop; and

WHEREAS, Town Marshal George Tolliver was shot and killed on October 19, 1969 when he interrupted a burglary in progress; and

WHEREAS, On September 11, 2007 the Clay County Board approved a memorial to honor the three officers; and

WHEREAS, Current plans are for the Memorial to be dedicated on May 11, 2008, the first day of National Police Officers Week; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor these three brave men who gave their lives in the service of others; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the families of the late Marshal Shipley, Trooper Doris, and Town Marshal Tolliver as symbols of our respect and esteem.
