HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize people of the State of
4 Illinois who have received awards and accolades for their good
5 work and dedication to others; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The Italian American Political Coalition (IAPC)
7 seeks to recognize the contributions of those Italian American
8 leaders who have played an instrumental part in the success of
9 the IAPC mission; the mission of the IAPC is to serve as a link
10 between the Italian American community and its governmental
11 representatives to better define and impart the concerns,
12 values, and interests of the Italian American community to the
13 body politic; it also serves to motivate members of the
14 community to become more involved in the electoral process by
15 seeking out, promoting, and mentoring qualified and viable
16 candidates for public office who have an Italian heritage or
17 who support our mission and its goals and to appoint and elect
18 such persons to the judicial, legislative, and executive
19 branches of government; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Just as William Paca, a signer of the Declaration
21 of Independence, honored our country, we honor Joseph Tamburino
22 with the Paca Award; and

1     WHEREAS, In his 7th term as Village President, Mr.
2 Tamburino is the only mayor in the history of the Village of
3 Hillside that has held office for 20 years or more; before
4 being elected mayor in 1981, he served a four-year term as
5 Village Trustee and chairperson of the Finance Committee and
6 the Community Affairs Committee; Mr. Tamburino has been
7 instrumental in creating many programs for the senior citizens
8 and the youth of the village; he was instrumental in putting
9 together community events for the residents such as The Summer
10 Job Program, Summer Camp Program, The Youth Athletic Parade,
11 Project UFO, The Taste of Hillside, and the Summer Concerts;
12 and
 
13     WHEREAS, Working with his Village Clerk, Patrick
14 O'Sullivan, they started the Hillside Chamber of Commerce and
15 Industry, which benefits the business community; through his
16 efforts, Mr. Tamburino has enhanced the village growth by
17 forming many committees such as Environmental,
18 Intergovernmental Relations, the Human Relations Committee,
19 and the Economic Development Committee, resulting in a new
20 32-acre development currently being constructed at Mannheim
21 Road and the Eisenhower Expressway; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Mr. Tamburino is a life-long resident of the
23 Hillside-Berkeley area and has three grown children and 5
24 grandchildren; Mr. Tamburino is Vice President of

1 Administration at Equity Residential Properties; Mr. Tamburino
2 is an Army veteran, who served a tour of duty in Vietnam during
3 1969 with the 1st Infantry Brigade of the 5th Infantry
4 Division; during his terms as mayor, he was instrumental in
5 bringing the Vietnam Wall to The Village of Hillside; due to
6 his efforts, Hillside's Veteran Memorial was built and he began
7 the annual Memorial Day Services and the annual Veterans Day
8 Parade; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Tamburino is a graduate of St. Domitilla Grade
10 School and Proviso West High School; he also attended Triton
11 College and DePaul University; he is a member of the
12 Broadview-Hillside American Legion Post, Fourth Degree member
13 of Assumption Council of the Knights of Columbus, Board of
14 Governors of Elmhurst Hospital, past president and current
15 secretary of the Proviso Municipal League, and a past president
16 of The West Central Municipal Conference; and he is a life-long
17 parishioner of St. Domitilla Church; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20 congratulate Joseph Tamburino on receiving the Paca Award; and
21 be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to Joseph Tamburino as a symbol of our respect.
