HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The community colleges of the State of Illinois provide a vital service to those seeking professional careers; the knowledge that these institutions impart upon their students is vital in keeping up with an increasingly complex and competitive world economy; and

WHEREAS, As a highly respected and honorable institution of higher education, Highland Community College has awarded over 11,000 degrees and certificates since 1964; the college has been responsible for fostering a wide range of professionals, from doctors to farmers to automotive technicians; and

WHEREAS, Offering more than 60 programs of applied and transfer degrees, Highland Community College serves over 5,000 students a year in college credit and community education programs, with about 700 additional students receiving adult education services and over 100 students earning their GED annually; the college's Business Institute provides training for working adults throughout northwest Illinois, having served 863 students in FY07; and

WHEREAS, Highland Community College is one of only a few hundred colleges and universities accepted into the Academic Quality Improvement Program of the North Central Association, an indication of the institution's consistent quality; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank the faculty and staff of Highland Community College and the many other community colleges throughout the State for the great services that they perform for the people of the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Highland Community College as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
