HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The community colleges of the State of Illinois
3 provide a vital service to those seeking professional careers;
4 the knowledge that these institutions impart upon their
5 students is vital in keeping up with an increasingly complex
6 and competitive world economy; and
 
7     WHEREAS, As a highly respected and honorable institution of
8 higher education, Highland Community College has awarded over
9 11,000 degrees and certificates since 1964; the college has
10 been responsible for fostering a wide range of professionals,
11 from doctors to farmers to automotive technicians; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Offering more than 60 programs of applied and
13 transfer degrees, Highland Community College serves over 5,000
14 students a year in college credit and community education
15 programs, with about 700 additional students receiving adult
16 education services and over 100 students earning their GED
17 annually; the college's Business Institute provides training
18 for working adults throughout northwest Illinois, having
19 served 863 students in FY07; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Highland Community College is one of only a few
21 hundred colleges and universities accepted into the Academic
22 Quality Improvement Program of the North Central Association,

1 an indication of the institution's consistent quality;
2 therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5 thank the faculty and staff of Highland Community College and
6 the many other community colleges throughout the State for the
7 great services that they perform for the people of the State of
8 Illinois; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Highland Community College as a symbol of our
11 respect and esteem.
