HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sherrie Bell-Smith
4 of Chicago on the occasion of being selected as a finalist for
5 the 2008 Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Awards; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching
7 Awards is the first awards program to formally recognize the
8 contributions of teachers working with children from infancy
9 through third grade; the educators selected for this award
10 exemplify the best practices of quality early childhood
11 teaching, namely dedication, innovation, leadership, respect
12 for children and their families, and commitment to professional
13 growth; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Sherrie Bell-Smith is an educator at the Chicago
15 State University EHS Family Child Care Home in the Raise Up a
16 Child program, a position that she has performed in with great
17 integrity and dedication; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Sherrie Bell-Smith was selected as one of 17
19 outstanding Chicago educators eligible for the award; she will
20 compete with the other 16 finalists in order to be selected as
21 one of 5 representatives of quality early childhood education;
22 each of the five representatives will receive a $5,000 cash

1 award, a $1,000 cash award for the center, a classroom visit
2 from the StoryBus, a classroom field trip to and a day of
3 professional development from the Kohl Chicago Children's
4 Museum, a graduate-level course at Chicago's renowned Erikson
5 Institute, and induction into the Kohl McCormick Academy of
6 Outstanding Educators; the recipients will receive these
7 prizes at the Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Awards
8 luncheon ceremony on June 3, 2008 in Chicago; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Sherrie Bell-Smith's dedication to her profession
10 and her willingness to serve her community make her a model for
11 the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14 congratulate Sherrie Bell-Smith of Chicago on the occasion of
15 being selected as a finalist for the 2008 Kohl McCormick Early
16 Childhood Teaching Awards, wish her luck in the final
17 competition, and wish her continued success and happiness in
18 the future; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Sherrie Bell-Smith as a symbol of our esteem and
21 respect.
