HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois wish to honor John Mezera on his retirement as City Manager for Joliet on March 31, 2008; and

WHEREAS, He began work as a civil engineer for Joliet in 1976; he worked as Director of Public Works from 1978 to 1981 and Director of Public Service from 1981 to 1987; from 1987 to today he has been the City Manager; and

WHEREAS, He has overseen the development of two riverboat casinos, the Route 66 Dragstrip, the Nascar Speedway, the Autobahn Racetrack, Splash Station Waterpark, four new fire stations, a new police station, the Black Road Library, and the Historical Museum; and

WHEREAS, He has played a major role in the development of the minor league ballpark, the master storm sewer plan, the wastewater treatment plant, ten water treatment plants, seven deep wells, the City Center Riverwalk, and many other improvements and additions to the City of Joliet; and

WHEREAS, He was the recipient of the 2000 National Top Ten Public Works Official of the Year Award; and the recipient of the 2008 Cornerstone Services Award; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate John Mezera on his hard work and dedication as City Manager of Joliet and we wish him the best in his retirement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Mezera as a token of our esteem.
