HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois wish to honor the Chinese New Year Spectacular being held at Auditorium Theatre in Chicago on March 3, 2007; and

WHEREAS, The Chinese New Year is the most colorful and important of China's fetes and the Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Singaporean celebrate their ancient traditions through family reunions and performing arts; and

WHEREAS, The 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular will span 28 major cities in Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America, with an expected live audience of 150,000 worldwide; the Chicago shows will have an estimated audience of 7,800; and

WHEREAS, The 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular will be performed by the Divine Performing Arts group, whose mission is to rediscover the essence of true, traditional culture and to bring arts that celebrate human dignity and positive values; it produces and performs works that center on classical themes and divinely-inspired cultural traditions; the groups performances aim to provide an experience of consummate beauty and goodness; and

WHEREAS, The 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular in Chicago aims to be a showcase of traditional Chinese culture, a platform for cross-cultural understanding between the East and West, and a unifying event for all people interested in Chinese culture; and

WHEREAS, The 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular is organized by the Sound of Hope Radio, an independent Chinese language media; Sound of Hope Radio is a non-for-profit organization dedicated to facilitate cross-cultural communications between the East and West, and to assist the public in their search for valuable cultural events, and services, educational workshops, and publications; in addition, the program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor and express our support for the 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Chinese New Year Spectacular Organizing Committee.
