HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The State of Illinois draws its strength from those organizations that are dedicated to the economic vitality and quality of life of the residents of this State; and

WHEREAS, The establishment of institutions that enhance economic growth and development are invaluable; the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce is an example of such an institution that is key to the well-being of local businesses, which have a direct and positive impact upon the communities they serve; and

WHEREAS, Celebrating its 100 years of service to the Greater Elgin area this year, the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce has been successful thanks to the efforts of many hard-working and resourceful individuals, who are dedicated to advancing the economic interests of their communities; and

WHEREAS, Born as The Commercial Club with 47 members on July 31, 1908, and welcoming all desiring membership who would "boost Elgin" and assist in attracting industry, the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce was founded by individuals who had a desire to enhance life in the community; the club did so by developing ways to assist local businesses, encouraging commercial and economic growth, and improving the quality of life throughout Elgin; and

WHEREAS, Today, the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce continues to work toward their original objectives, and, in the years since its founding, has undertaken many other endeavors to improve the business environment and overall quality of life for citizens throughout the Greater Elgin area; and

WHEREAS, The Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to serving their members through advocacy, representation, communication, and education, by promoting and representing the interests of its businesses and professional members; and

WHEREAS, Having been successful in furthering the growth of commerce and trade, the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce is to be commended for its great determination in serving both large and small businesses and in helping enhance economic vitality, advocating for businesses, and creating opportunities for its members; and

WHEREAS, Businesses in Elgin continue to welcome initiatives led by the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce that promote the exchange of ideas and information, foster communication, strengthen positive relationships among local and statewide business communities, and examine ways to promote commerce in the 21st century; and

WHEREAS, The members of this body are justly proud to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce in 2008; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of the chamber's 100th anniversary and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
