HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the men and women who represent Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, on the occasion of the organization's 90th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago began in 1917 when a group of Chicago business and civic leaders approached Cardinal Mundelein, asking for the establishment of an agency to serve the poor; since its origins, Catholic Charities of Chicago has grown to become the largest private social service agency in the Midwest, and the largest Catholic Charities organization in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Catholic Charities has adapted to meet the changing needs of Chicago, becoming pioneers in several areas; the organization helps abandoned children, the aged and infirmed, and families in trouble, and worked in these areas before many current social service agencies began serving these particular needs; and

WHEREAS, More than 1.1 million men, women, and children are served each year through Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Catholic Charities opened the St.Leo Campus for Veterans in 2007; the Campus is the first of its kind in the United States, assisting homeless veterans with housing, medical assistance, and job training; and

WHEREAS, Catholic Charities fulfills the role of the Catholic Church in the mission of charity to anyone in need; Catholic Charities provides compassion, professional services that strengthen and support individuals and families, and fulfills needs across communities; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the men and women who work everyday to make Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago an agency dedicated to helping others; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
