SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Carbon Monoxide Food Label Act. Provides that any food treated with carbon monoxide must be clearly marked with a label placed in a conspicuous place that indicates that the food has been treated with carbon monoxide. Provides for enforcement by the Department of Public Health. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning public health.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Carbon
5 Monoxide Label Act.
 
6     Section 5. Definitions. In this Act:
7     "Food" includes without limitation an animal grown to
8 become food for human consumption, a food product, a food
9 ingredient, a dietary supplement, or a beverage.
10     "Label" means a display of written, printed, or graphic
11 matter upon an article or the immediate container, not
12 including a package liner, of an article.
 
13     Section 10. Label required. Any food treated with carbon
14 monoxide must be clearly marked with a label placed in a
15 conspicuous place that indicates that the food has been treated
16 with carbon monoxide.
 
17     Section 15. Enforcement. The Department of Public Health
18 may adopt any rules that are necessary for the enforcement of
19 this Act, including the imposition of a civil penalty.
 
20     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
