AN ACT concerning election officials.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section 29-12.5 as follows:

(10 ILCS 5/29-12.5 new)

Sec. 29-12.5. Political endorsements by election officials. No county clerk or member of a board of election commissioners may publicly endorse any candidate for a public office or any public question appearing on ballots solely in political subdivisions within the jurisdiction of that election authority and not elsewhere in the State. This prohibition includes but is not limited to print and broadcast endorsements.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
