SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
30 ILCS 740/2-15.3 new
70 ILCS 3605/52 new
70 ILCS 3610/10 new
70 ILCS 3615/3A.16 new
70 ILCS 3615/3B.15 new

    Amends the Downstate Public Transportation Act, the Local Mass Transit District Act, the Metropolitan Transit Authority Act, and the Regional Transportation Authority Act. Provides that all fixed route transit services provided by a local mass transit district, the Chicago Transit Authority, the Suburban Bus Board, and the Commuter Rail Division must be provided free of charge to active duty military personnel who present a valid military identification card. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Downstate Public Transportation Act is
5 amended by adding Section 2-15.3 as follows:
 
6     (30 ILCS 740/2-15.3 new)
7     Sec. 2-15.3. Active duty military personnel.
8 Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, within 60
9 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
10 95th General Assembly, all fixed route transit services
11 provided by a participant must be provided free of charge to
12 any individual who serves on an active-duty basis as a member
13 of the United States Armed Forces, a member of the Illinois
14 National Guard, or a member of the United States Reserve Forces
15 and who presents a valid military identification card.
 
16     Section 10. The Metropolitan Transit Authority Act is
17 amended by adding Section 52 as follows:
 
18     (70 ILCS 3605/52 new)
19     Sec. 52. Active duty military personnel. Notwithstanding
20 any provision of law to the contrary, within 60 days after the
21 effective date of this amendatory Act of the 95th General

1 Assembly, all fixed route transit services provided by the
2 Chicago Transit Authority must be provided free of charge to
3 any individual who serves on an active-duty basis as a member
4 of the United States Armed Forces, a member of the Illinois
5 National Guard, or a member of the United States Reserve Forces
6 and who presents a valid military identification card.
 
7     Section 15. The Local Mass Transit District Act is amended
8 by adding Section 10 as follows:
 
9     (70 ILCS 3610/10 new)
10     Sec. 10. Active duty military personnel. Notwithstanding
11 any provision of law to the contrary, within 60 days after the
12 effective date of this amendatory Act of the 95th General
13 Assembly, all fixed route transit services provided by a local
14 mass transit district must be provided free of charge to any
15 individual who serves on an active-duty basis as a member of
16 the United States Armed Forces, a member of the Illinois
17 National Guard, or a member of the United States Reserve Forces
18 and who presents a valid military identification card.
 
19     Section 20. The Regional Transportation Authority Act is
20 amended by adding Sections 3A.16 and 3B.15 as follows:

22     Sec. 3A.16. Active duty military personnel.

1 Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, within 60
2 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
3 95th General Assembly, all fixed route transit services
4 provided by the Suburban Bus Board must be provided free of
5 charge to any individual who serves on an active-duty basis as
6 a member of the United States Armed Forces, a member of the
7 Illinois National Guard, or a member of the United States
8 Reserve Forces and who presents a valid military identification
9 card.
 
10     (70 ILCS 3615/3B.15 new)
11     Sec. 3B.15. Active duty military personnel.
12 Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, within 60
13 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
14 95th General Assembly, all fixed route transit services
15 provided by the Commuter Rail Board must be provided free of
16 charge to any individual who serves on an active-duty basis as
17 a member of the United States Armed Forces, a member of the
18 Illinois National Guard, or a member of the United States
19 Reserve Forces and who presents a valid military identification
20 card.
 
21     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
22 becoming law.
