SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/16-104d new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that, if any person is convicted of or pleads guilty to a violation of the Code, or a similar provision of a local ordinance, that resulted in an accident, and the person's use of a wireless telephone caused or contributed to the accident, the person shall, in addition to any other penalty imposed, pay a fine of $500.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 16-104d as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/16-104d new)
7     Sec. 16-104d. Additional penalty; wireless telephone use
8 causes accident. If any person is convicted of or pleads guilty
9 to a violation of this Code, or a similar provision of a local
10 ordinance, that resulted in an accident, and the person's use
11 of a wireless telephone as defined in Section 12-610.1 of this
12 Code caused or contributed to the accident, the person shall,
13 in addition to any other penalty imposed, pay a fine of $500.
