SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/2-3.142 new

    Amends the School Code. Requires the State Board of Education to establish a 3-year pilot program to make women's self-preservation classes part of the high school curriculum. Provides that the program must be established in school districts located in Cook, Will, and Champaign Counties. Provides that after the pilot program has been in effect for 3 years, the State Board of Education shall report its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly on whether the program should be expanded to other school districts in the State. Effective July 1, 2007.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
5 2-3.142 as follows:
 
6     (105 ILCS 5/2-3.142 new)
7     Sec. 2-3.142. Women's self-preservation classes; pilot
8 program.
9     (a) The State Board of Education shall establish a 3-year
10 pilot program to make women's self-preservation classes part of
11 the high school curriculum. The program must be established in
12 school districts located in Cook, Will, and Champaign Counties.
13 Moneys appropriated in a fiscal year for the program shall be
14 divided equally among the 3 counties.
15     (b) After the pilot program established under this Section
16 has been in effect for 3 years, the State Board of Education
17 shall report its findings and recommendations to the General
18 Assembly on whether the program should be expanded to other
19 school districts in this State by filing copies of the report
20 as provided in Section 3.1 of the General Assembly Organization
21 Act.
 
22     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1,
