SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
815 ILCS 505/2ZZ new

    Amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Provides that if a wireless telephone service provider makes directory assistance service available to its subscribers and imposes a fee or airtime charge for directory assistance inquiries, the wireless telephone service provider may not include, or permit to be included, any advertising message in the responses given to directory assistance inquiries. Provides that if a wireless telephone service provider makes directory assistance service available to its subscribers and includes, or permits to be included, any advertising message in the responses given to directory assistance inquiries, the wireless telephone service provider may not impose a fee or airtime charge for directory assistance inquiries. Makes a violation an unlawful practice within the meaning of the Act.

1     AN ACT concerning business.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
5 Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2ZZ as follows:
 
6     (815 ILCS 505/2ZZ new)
7     Sec. 2ZZ. Wireless telephone service providers; directory
8 assistance. If a wireless telephone service provider makes
9 directory assistance service available to its subscribers and
10 imposes a fee or airtime charge for directory assistance
11 inquiries, the wireless telephone service provider may not
12 include, or permit to be included, any advertising message in
13 the responses given to directory assistance inquiries.
14 If a wireless telephone service provider makes directory
15 assistance service available to its subscribers and includes,
16 or permits to be included, any advertising message in the
17 responses given to directory assistance inquiries, the
18 wireless telephone service provider may not impose a fee or
19 airtime charge for directory assistance inquiries.
20     A violation of this Section constitutes an unlawful
21 practice within the meaning of this Act.
