SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Maureen Therese Barnes of Springfield, who passed away on January 20, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes was born in Chicago to Mary Catherine (Barron) and David Mahoney on December 20, 1954; her family moved to Springfield at a young age, and she graduated from Springfield High School; she married Troy Barnes at Christ the King Church on September 6, 1974; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes dedicated her professional life to serving others in the medical field; she enrolled in night school to get her nursing degree, and over the next three decades, she created a highly impactful and respected nursing career working in both private practice and surgery at Memorial Health Systems; she was known as "Mother Moe" and mentored many young nurses; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes had a unique and special relationship with each of her grandchildren; one of her great joys was bringing her grandchildren to summer vacations on Lake Michigan; she felt that her times at Lake Michigan with family and friends were some of the best memories she had ever made; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes and her husband enjoyed traveling around the country, and they looked forward to their winters in Florida with their fellow snowbirds; she also kept up with her sisterhood of nurses with cherished weekly and monthly dinners and lunches; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes was preceded in death by her sister, Trish Milburn; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes is survived by her husband of 49 years, Troy Barnes; her children, Thomas (Stacy) Barnes, Sarah (David) Byun, and Brian (Whitney) Barnes; her brothers, David (Kathy) and Dennis (Cindy) Mahoney; her sister, Margaret "Peggy" Mahoney; her sister-in-law, Diann (Gary) Glenn; her grandchildren, Kylie, Owen, Arlo, Cassidy, August, Viona, and Ruth; numerous close cousins, nieces, and nephews; and the hundreds of friends she made such a huge part of her life; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Maureen Therese Barnes and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Maureen Barnes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
