SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to congratulate Mujeres Latinas en Acción on their 50 years of service throughout the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Mujeres Latinas en Acción is a bilingual and bicultural agency that empowers Latinas by providing services that reflect their values, culture, and advocacy on the issues that make a difference in their lives; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1973, Mujeres Latinas en Acción is the longest running incorporated Latina organization in the nation; the year of 2023 marks 50 years that this organization has dedicated to the Latino communities in the Chicago area; by developing a comprehensive array of social services and advocacy initiatives that promote non-violence, reproductive health, and leadership development, this organization is a critical resource for Black and Brown people in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Understanding the importance of supporting individuals when they need it the most, Mujeres Latinas en Acción has a domestic violence program, a sexual assault program, a parent support program, a Latina Leadership program for Spanish-speaking women survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and an educational program for Spanish-speaking immigrants, as well as a focus on community engagement and business training; and

WHEREAS, For individuals who may need assistance with domestic violence related situations, Mujeres Latinas en Acción has a 24-hour crisis hotline that offers counseling, therapy, and many other resources; with an all bilingual staff, the organization continues to meet its communities' needs without making anyone feel unheard or misrepresented; and

WHEREAS, Serving thousands of Latino families, students, children, and leaders in the community, Mujeres Latinas en Acción is an example of excellence at the highest level; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mujeres Latinas en Acción for 50 years of service and merit; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution is to be presented to Linda Tortolero as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
