SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roy T. Schmidt of Lewistown, who passed away on June 27, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt was born to Ray F. and Mary (Hickman) Schmidt in Canton on June 19, 1947; he married Linda Oatman at Locust Lane United Methodist Church in rural Canton on January 24, 1969; he served as a helicopter gunner in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt retired from Caterpillar, Inc. after 45 years; he previously served as a part-time police officer for the City of Lewistown; and

WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt served as a master instructor for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources' Hunter Safety Program for 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt was a member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church, UAW Local 974, Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1, and Pheasants Forever; and

WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt enjoyed hunting; he also enjoyed mowing, and he volunteered to mow at the City Kids Camp in rural Lewistown; and

WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; and

WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda; his children, Christina (Jay) Heckart and Jacob Schmidt; and his sister, Janet Weber; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Roy T. Schmidt and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roy Schmidt as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
