SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Roy T. Schmidt of Lewistown, who
4passed away on June 27, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt was born to Ray F. and Mary (Hickman)
6Schmidt in Canton on June 19, 1947; he married Linda Oatman at
7Locust Lane United Methodist Church in rural Canton on January
824, 1969; he served as a helicopter gunner in the U.S. Army
9during the Vietnam War; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt retired from Caterpillar, Inc. after
1145 years; he previously served as a part-time police officer
12for the City of Lewistown; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt served as a master instructor for the
14Illinois Department of Natural Resources' Hunter Safety
15Program for 40 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt was a member of the Lewistown United
17Methodist Church, UAW Local 974, Lewistown American Legion
18Bishop Post 1, and Pheasants Forever; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt enjoyed hunting; he also enjoyed
20mowing, and he volunteered to mow at the City Kids Camp in

1rural Lewistown; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt was preceded in death by his parents
3and one brother; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Roy Schmidt is survived by his wife of 54 years,
5Linda; his children, Christina (Jay) Heckart and Jacob
6Schmidt; and his sister, Janet Weber; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Roy T. Schmidt and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Roy Schmidt as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
