SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of John E. Bobel of Waukegan on February 1, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was born August 10, 1926, in the Township of Little Suamico, Wisconsin, to Vincent and Mary (nee Kaczmarczyk) Bobel; the family moved from the farm in Wisconsin to Chicago then to a farm in Gurnee; he attended Stearns School Grade School and Warren Township High School; the family then moved to North Chicago, where he graduated from Waukegan Township High School; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bobel valiantly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy and was a decorated Veteran of World War II; he was married August 4, 1951, to Eileen Pelka in Gary, Indiana; they made their home in Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, After he was discharged, John was employed with United States Steel Corporation for 32 years; during this time, he attended the University of Illinois to further his education; after his retirement from U.S. Steel, he worked for Koenig and Strey Realty and Kucera Realty, the Illinois Department of Revenue, and the Kiley Development Center in Waukegan; he enjoyed traveling and went on several bicycle trips to Europe; he also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, boating, and politics; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bobel was a past chairman and vice chairman of the Waukegan Township Republican Party and a precinct committeeman; he worked on many fund-raisers and campaigns and was a member of the Lake County Republican Federation, past president of the United States Steel Federal Credit Union, past chairman and director of North Chicago Savings and Loan, member of the Lake County Board of Realtors, member of the Knights of Columbus, member of General Casmir Pulaski Post 25 Polish Legions of American Veterans, Ambassador for the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, member of the Homer Daringer Post #548 of the American Legion, member of the United States Steel Retiree Organization, and a Waukegan City Club Member; and

WHEREAS, The passing of John E. Bobel has been deeply felt by many, especially his children, John and Scoobie (Ryan), Mark and Beth (Neshek), Paul and Tammie (Petersen), and Michele and Steven Groseclose; his grandchildren, Veronica, Jacqueline, John Quinn, Anne Marie, and Casey Bobel, Steven and Amanda Bobel, Sophia and Catherine Groseclose, and Anthony and Tyfanie Peterson; his many great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Eleanor Naden and Irene Habjan; his sisters-in-law, Gene Bobel and Martha Bobel; and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews; he was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; his brothers, Frank and Chester; and his parents; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John E. Bobel, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John E. Bobel as an expression of our sincere condolences.
