SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of John E. Bobel of Waukegan
4 on February 1, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born August 10, 1926, in the Township of
6 Little Suamico, Wisconsin, to Vincent and Mary (nee
7 Kaczmarczyk) Bobel; the family moved from the farm in Wisconsin
8 to Chicago then to a farm in Gurnee; he attended Stearns School
9 Grade School and Warren Township High School; the family then
10 moved to North Chicago, where he graduated from Waukegan
11 Township High School; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Bobel valiantly served his country as a member
13 of the U.S. Navy and was a decorated Veteran of World War II;
14 he was married August 4, 1951, to Eileen Pelka in Gary,
15 Indiana; they made their home in Waukegan; and
 
16     WHEREAS, After he was discharged, John was employed with
17 United States Steel Corporation for 32 years; during this time,
18 he attended the University of Illinois to further his
19 education; after his retirement from U.S. Steel, he worked for
20 Koenig and Strey Realty and Kucera Realty, the Illinois
21 Department of Revenue, and the Kiley Development Center in
22 Waukegan; he enjoyed traveling and went on several bicycle
23 trips to Europe; he also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, boating,
24 and politics; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Mr. Bobel was a past chairman and vice chairman of
26 the Waukegan Township Republican Party and a precinct
27 committeeman; he worked on many fund-raisers and campaigns and
28 was a member of the Lake County Republican Federation, past
29 president of the United States Steel Federal Credit Union, past
30 chairman and director of North Chicago Savings and Loan, member
31 of the Lake County Board of Realtors, member of the Knights of

1 Columbus, member of General Casmir Pulaski Post 25 Polish
2 Legions of American Veterans, Ambassador for the Lake County
3 Chamber of Commerce, member of the Homer Daringer Post #548 of
4 the American Legion, member of the United States Steel Retiree
5 Organization, and a Waukegan City Club Member; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The passing of John E. Bobel has been deeply felt
7 by many, especially his children, John and Scoobie (Ryan), Mark
8 and Beth (Neshek), Paul and Tammie (Petersen), and Michele and
9 Steven Groseclose; his grandchildren, Veronica, Jacqueline,
10 John Quinn, Anne Marie, and Casey Bobel, Steven and Amanda
11 Bobel, Sophia and Catherine Groseclose, and Anthony and Tyfanie
12 Peterson; his many great-grandchildren; his two sisters,
13 Eleanor Naden and Irene Habjan; his sisters-in-law, Gene Bobel
14 and Martha Bobel; and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews; he
15 was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; his brothers, Frank
16 and Chester; and his parents; therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19 John E. Bobel, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
20 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
21 further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to the family of John E. Bobel as an expression of
24 our sincere condolences.
