SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were saddened to learn of the passing of Oscar Henry Wilkinson of Granite City January 2, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Oscar Henry Wilkinson was born on February 18, 1925 in Gabaret Island, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wilkinson was the owner and operator of 5 Star Engineering and Mechanical Contractors; he retired in 1990 after 16 years as a steamfitter and mechanical contractor; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wilkinson proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army with 82nd 508 "Red Devils" Airborne Division and was the recipient of the Purple Heart; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wilkinson was an avid Nascar and stock car enthusiast and enjoyed nature, whether watching the birds or admiring the flowers; he will be remembered for the love of his family his ability of cooking; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wilkinson was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Joan (nee Blaylock) Wilkinson, whom he married October 13, 1945, in Venice, Illinois, and passed away on August 3,1993; his parents, Percy Joshua and Virginia Edna (nee Tayon) Wilkinson; three sons, Vernon E. Wilkinson, Joseph R. Wilkinson, and James David Wilkinson; and ten brothers and sisters; and

WHEREAS, Oscar Wilkinson is survived by his children, Harold T. "Tom" and Brenda Wilkinson, Richard L. "Dick" Wilkinson, P.J. (Cheryl) Wilkinson, Mary R. Lackey, Laura K. (Mark) Williams, Roger A. (JoEllen) Wilkinson, and Charles D. (Cheryl) Wilkinson; his 25 grandchildren; his 23 great-grandchildren; his two great-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Virginia (Stanley) Martin, Margaret Frazier, and Grace Foley; and other extended family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the death of Oscar Henry Wilkinson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Oscar Henry Wilkinson as an expression of our condolences.
