SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Gwendoline "Gwenn" I. Smiley of Springfield, who passed away on November 13, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Gwendoline Smiley was born on May 15, 1924, in Plymouth, England; her parents were Albert and Lillian Kelly Pearse; and

WHEREAS, She married Virgil "Jack" Smiley in Plymouth, England in 1943; she came to the United States in 1946 and became a U.S. citizen in 1947; and

WHEREAS, Gwendoline Smiley served in the British Navy, Army, and Air Force Institute during World War II; she worked at Bressmers and Luers Shoes, as well as being a homemaker; and

WHEREAS, Gwendoline Smiley was a member of the First United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Gwendoline Smiley is survived by her husband, Jack; her sons, Brian (wife, Joan) Smiley, and Russell (wife, Michelle) Smiley; her daughters, Janet (husband, Robert) Karr, Lynda (husband, Paul) Bridges, and Paula (husband, Hal) Kitchen; her 10 grandchildren; and her 15 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Gwendoline Smiley; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gwendoline Smiley.
