SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of James E. Baumhart of Palos Heights, who passed away on November 12, 2006; and

WHEREAS, James Baumhart was born on New Year's Day, January 1, 1940, in St. Benedict Parish on the North Side of Chicago, Illinois; he was the youngest child of a butcher and a homemaker; and

WHEREAS, James Baumhart was a 1957 graduate of DePaul Academy, attended Xavier University in Ohio, and received his Bachelor's degree in business from Loyola University; and

WHEREAS, James Baumhart began his career with the Better Business Bureau in 1964, and worked his way up to executive vice-president and then president; he was known for his dedication to the Bureau, working to improve ethical business relationships in northern Illinois and across the country; and

WHEREAS, He met his wife, Barbara, while both of them worked for Bureau; they were matched together to plan an annual company dinner in 1972 and fell in love, marrying on Independence Day in 1974; and

WHEREAS, James Baumhart was a past president of the Catholic Charities Adoptive Parents Guild, emeritus director of St. Benedict High School, a former president of the Palos Heights Garden Civic Association, and vice chairman of Marist High School; and

WHEREAS, James Baumhart was an avid golfer and sports fan; he was extremely generous; and he was actively involved in the Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club; and

WHEREAS, James Baumhart was the devoted husband of Barbara (nee Jerome); the cherished father of Peter, Charles, and Jon Baumhart; the loving brother of the Reverend Raymond C. Baumhart, SJ, Dorothy (late Harold) Unger, late Jerome (Judy) Baumhart, and Florence (Robert) Biewald; and the fond uncle of numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James Baumhart; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Baumhart.
