SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard Mervyn "Dick" Hall of Arlington Heights, who passed away on November 3, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Richard Mervyn "Dick" Hall was born on May 14, 1925, in Macomb, Illinois; his parents were Mervyn and Beryl Hall; and

WHEREAS, After serving in the Army Air Corps, Richard Hall attended the University of Illinois, Urbana, graduating in just two and one-half years with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; he was still working full-time as owner of a commercial and industrial lighting fixture sales agency at the time of his death; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hall was the longest-serving supervisor out of 30 townships in Cook County; he began his 38 years of public service with Elk Grove Township as a trustee in April 1968; he was first elected Elk Grove Township supervisor eight years later in 1976 and was repeatedly re-elected, serving in that position until his death; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hall's legacy as township supervisor includes a bicycle safety program for the township; the program now trains between 5,000 to 7,000 children every year; he also created the Elk Grove Township Community Day Care Center, so that working mothers would have a place to bring their children; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hall was president of the Elk Grove Township Republican Organization, a resident of Elk Grove Township for more than 40 years, and a member of the Township Officials of Cook County; and

WHEREAS, In 2005 Mr. Hall was honored by local officials when a street in unincorporated Elk Grove Township was re-named Richard M. Hall Drive; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hall was a life master in duplicate bridge and had mastered most major board games; he enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening with his natural "green thumb", cooking outdoors, even in the middle of winter, and playing with his special at-home friends, his cats; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hall is survived by his wife, Arlene; his daughters, Sharon (Ron) Lansdown, Lyn (Gary) Woodrum, and Marianne (Cliff) Albert; Arlene's children, Tom Podlesak, Bethann (Ed) Castellano, and Susan (Larry) Johnson; his grandchildren, Kathy (Eric) Regan, Shari (Patrick) Hayes, Ron Lansdown, Kari Woodrum, Eric Woodrum, Erin (Ian) Burgar, Ryan (Sarah) Albert, and Weston Albert; Arlene's grandchildren, Michael Castellano, Brittany Castellano, Danny Castellano, Larry Johnson, Jr., Scott Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Katie Johnson, Jason Johnson, Brianna Johnson, and Connor Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Melanie Regan, Christopher Hayes, and Caelan Hayes; his sister, Betty (Bob) Rands; and many nephews and nieces; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Richard Hall; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Richard Hall.
