SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express their condolences to the family of Olivia Turner, who recently passed away; and

WHEREAS, Oliva Dawkins Turner was born in Lake Village, Arkansas on October 3, 1929; her parents were Willie and Mollie Dawkins; and

WHEREAS, She received a diploma from Lydia's Beauty Culture School in 1958, and then owned and operated her own shop until her health failed; and

WHEREAS, She served as Worthy Matron of Deborah Chapter No. 6 of the Eastern Star; and

WHEREAS, Olivia Turner and Reverend Bennie Turner were united in marriage on October 13, 1967; her husband was the founding pastor of the Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as First Lady until his passing in 1989; she joined the Holy Zion Missionary Baptist Church in 1990, and served as the first President of the Pastor's Aide committee; she later moved to the Mother's Board where she served faithfully; and

WHEREAS, Olvia Turner is survived by her brother Willie Dawkins; her child, Janice Lee; her great-great nieces that she raised as daughters, Tashia Lee and LaNeeShea Lee; her god-daughter, Christina Smith; her great-great-great niece, Ra'Niesha Lee; her great-great-great nephews, Ranier Braziel, Jr., and Darryl Bell, Jr.; her god-granddaughter, Sienna Smith, her god-sister, Lucille Jumper; and a host of step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we again express our sorrow at the death of Olivia Turner; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Olivia Turner.
