SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Benjamin Williams, who passed away on November 3, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin Williams was born on August 27, 1954 in Webb, Mississippi; he was the seventh child born to Willie B. and Mozella Williams; and

WHEREAS, He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church of Webb, Mississippi; he later moved to Chicago, Illinois and joined the Helping Hand Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Joe Kelley; and

WHEREAS, He attended West District High School in Sumner, Mississippi, and later joined the United States Army; he married Mary Black in 1982; and

WHEREAS, Benjamin Williams moved to Maywood, Illinois and joined the Proviso Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Claude Porter; he served faithfully in many auxiliaries, including the Trustee Board, the Audio Sound Ministry, the PBC Security Team, and the Bus Ministry; he was a member of P.T.M.A.N. (Proviso Township Ministerial Alliance Network); and

WHEREAS, He leaves behind his wife, Mary; his children, Sherwonder (Mark), Ben, Jr., Rick, Lawrence, Shamara, Sydney, Symone "Poppy", Devon, Devin, and Calvin; his devoted friend, Renita Evans; his brothers, Willie, Jr., Billy, and Bernard; his sisters, Ollie, Mabel, and Bobbie; and a host of many relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we extend to the family and friends of Benjamin Williams our sympathies at this time of loss; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Benjamin Williams.
