SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, In the late 1800's freed slaves John & Julia Evans
3 left Virginia and freed slaves Milton & Joanna Green left North
4 Carolina; both families settled in Alabama where their
5 children, Rufas Evans and Emma Green married and gave birth to
6 their first-born child; Rebecca Marie Evans was born in Marion,
7 Alabama on January 29, 1905; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mother Caldwell was born the oldest of six
9 children (4 boys & girls); today her youngest brother still
10 lives on family land in Marion, Alabama; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She learned very early to give, help, and care for
12 family, leaving the fields early to prepare meals; she learned
13 to cook without a gas stove, electric oven, or a microwave;
14 Mother Caldwell cooked from scratch and learned to cook, work,
15 and care for her family; upon completion of the 9th grade she
16 was asked by her mother to work in order for her brothers and
17 baby sister to attend school; and
 
18     WHEREAS, She accepted Christ at a very early age and was a
19 Sunday school regular in Alabama, sang in the choir in
20 Evanston, and served lovingly and faithfully at Christian
21 Valley for over 40 years; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Rebecca Caldwell is survived by her daughter,
23 Johnnie Ruth Brown; her son, Nathaniel Wyatt; her brother, John
24 Evans; her six grandchildren; her twelve great-grandchildren;
25 her two great-great-grandchildren; and hundreds of relatives
26 and friends; therefore, be it
 
27     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
29 her family and friends, the passing of Rebecca Marie Evans
30 Caldwell; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of Rebecca Marie Evans Caldwell.
